چکیده

Phonon densities of states ~DOS! were obtained from inelastic neutron scattering measurements on Ce0.9Th0.1 at temperatures from 10 to 300 K. The a phase showed a significant softening of its phonon DOS when heated from 10 to 140 K. Despite the 17% volume collapse, the phonon DOS showed little change between the g phase at 150 K and the a phase at 140 K. This is supported by analysis of the magnetic spectra showing that most of the transition entropy can be accounted for with the crystal field and changes in the ground-state spin fluctuations. We argue that the anomalous behavior of the phonon DOS originates with the volume dependence of the ground-state spin fluctuations.

Pressure effects on Ca60Al40 metallic glass superconductors

Theoretical computation of the pressure dependence superconducting state parameters of binary Ca60Al40 is reported using model potential formalism. Explicit expressions have been derived for the volume dependence of the electron–phonon coupling strength λ and the Coulomb pseudopotential μ* considering the variation of Fermi momentum KF and Debye temperature ӨD with volume. Well known Ashcroft’s...

Numerical Investigations of Holstein Phonons on the Periodic Anderson Model

In condensed matter physics, the idea of localized magnetic moments and the scattering of conduction electrons by those local moments are of central importance not only for explaining the transport of electrons at low temperature region but also for developing the related models and theories to extend our understanding of novel physics like non-conventional superconductor, quantum phase transit...

Structures and Phase Transitions

The properties of iron under extreme conditions are intensively studied [1] due to its relevance for geophysical models of the earth’s interior. From a more general point of view, the behaviour of bcc iron under compression is interesting since almost half of the elements contain the bcc structure in their phase diagram. The phonon dispersion of bcc elements was studied in the past in search of...

Collapse of antiferromagnetism in CeRh2Si2 : volume versus entropy

The thermal expansion of the heavy fermion compound CeRh2Si2 has been measured under pressure as a function of temperature using strain gages. A large anomaly associated to the Néel temperature has been detected even above the suspected critical pressure Pc ∼ 1.05 GPa where no indication of antiferromagnetism has been observed in calorimetry experiments sensitive to the entropy change. An unexp...

Unusual lattice dynamics of vanadium under high pressure.

The electronic structures and lattice dynamics of pressure-induced complex phase transitions [bcc --> hR1(110.5 degrees) --> distorted-hR1(108.2 degrees) --> bcc] in vanadium as a function of pressure up to 400 GPa have been investigated with an ab initio method using density functional perturbation theory (DFPT). At ambient pressure, the soft transverse acoustic phonon mode corresponding to Ko...
